Your blog should be based around your special abilities to solve somebody else's problem. If you have expertise in solving infestations of naked mole rats, or in cuisine that involves them, or maybe in breeding them (or all three) then you would indeed write about naked mole rats. Ditto for financial planning. A blog should be about what you know ... with the secondary filter being what other people want to know about. Ya gotta dance with who brung ya. See? Yes, you may need multiple sites to make financial picture work but that's called diversification. All it takes is for Google to Pandalize your one great amazing blog and you're toast.
